Article #1<p>The Concept of The Compounding Strategy<p>It is amazing how many investors manage their portfolios for years before ever studying the concept of compounding. As simple as it sounds, many investors only look at their portfolio from a profit and loss point-of-view. Any profit is theirs to spend. It is their earnings.<p>Albert Einstein called compound interest "the greatest mathematical discovery of all time". This is true because, compounding can be applied to everyday life. <p>Compounding is the process of generating earnings on by reinvesting. To work, it requires the re-investment of earnings. It also requires time to compound the investments. Compounding can also be considered 'accelerated growth' of the portfolio's income potential of the original investment. <p>This transfers the responsibility for growth from the investor to the investment.<p>If the investor invests $10,000 at 6%, it will earn $10,600 in one year. Instead of withdrawing the $600, it is reinvested for another year. <p>If it earns the same rate of 6%, it will grow to investment will grow to $11,236.00 ($10,600 x 1.06) by the end of the second year. <p>The original $600 works with the original investment, earning $636, or $36 more than the previous year. <p>This is where most investors say that $36 is not worth the effort. They turn back to more volatile stocks in an effort to build wealth. This extra #36 may seem insignificant, but this $36 has the capacity to earn interest. <p>After the next year, the investment compounds to $11,910.16. This time the investment earned $74.16. <p>This is compounding: interest earning interest on interest. It continues as long as the earnings are reinvested and continue earning interest.<p>Preferred Stocks You may not consider the aspect of compounding when deciding whether bonds are worth investing in. <p>But, if you consider the dividends paid as interest, and continue to reinvest it, then the compound factor will continue.<p>Bonds The same type of compounding can be applied to bonds. Bonds are virtually guaranteed, or risk-free. The safety and stability, however, come at a cost. <p>Because there is little risk, there are lower returns. As a result, the rate of return on bonds is generally lower than other securities.<p>Mutual Funds The advantage of a mutual fund is that money can be invested without the time or the experience needed to choose a good investment. <p>Theoretically, this gives a better return by putting the money in the hands of a professional. In reality, a portfolio can be strong one day and bottom out the next.<p>Maximizing the Compound Theory This type of investing strategy is for people who do not mind investing for a long time. <p>An investment portfolio will be built on steady investments that earn 5 -- 10% a year, with low risk. Each year the money is re-invested. <p>The portfolio sees very little 'serious' growth in the first 10 -- 25 years. But, the next ten years will see a dramatic doubling and redoubling of the portfolio. <p>So, even though the portfolio sacrificed high returns in the early days, in favour of lower risk -- the compound factor balances the portfolio in the long run.<p>Risk and Return To make this type of strategy work, investors need to understand the concept of risk and return. <p>Risk is the variance in revenue earned. The investor may lose money. <p>Not receiving enough return can also be considered a risk factor. <p>The risk and return balance means that if the investor takes greater risks, they should expect greater returns. With the compound strategy, instead of taking greater risks to earn higher returns, the money is invested for a longer period. <p>How much risk should the investor take? That depends on several factors including their age, risk tolerance, and objectives. <p>Obviously, the compound strategy will work better for someone who is 25 than for someone who is 55. It is also better for someone who only has a little to invest, or cannot risk losing their investment. <p>Return On Investment Return On Investment (ROI) is a vital part of the compound strategy. One way to measure the value of that return is ROI. <p>Returns may be positive or negative. A positive return would mean you earned money, and a negative return would mean you lost money. Return on investment is a percentage of the original amount you invested.<p>Different types of investments offer different returns, and risk. Low risk investments should give you a lower return on investment, but when compounded -- over time -- the returns balance.<p>Retirement Savings This type of strategy is great as a retirement savings plan. The investment money will not be withdrawn for 20 -- 40 years, giving it time to grow. <p>The wealth is not needed to finance the investor's lifestyle, or property investing. Most new investors never consider currency trading when they are trying to earn wealth. <p>They either do not understand it, or feel it is beyond their ability to master the market.<p>The foreign exchange market (FOREX ) is the largest financial market in the world. It trades a volume of $1.3 trillion a day. This is more than three times the collective total of the US Equity and Treasury markets combined. <p>One of the most confusing aspects of the Forex market is that it doesn't exist in a physical sense. Unlike other financial markets, the <p>Forex market has no physical location, no central exchange, no clearing house, no address. It operates through an electronic network of banks, corporations and individuals who trade one currency for another. <p>The second way that Forex differs from stock exchanges is that it operates 24 hours a day. The market never closes. <p>The lack of a physical exchange enables the Forex market to operate on a continual basis, spanning from one time zone to another across the major financial centres. <p>When one closes, FOREX jumps to the next. The trading follows the sun around the globe. When one time zone wakes in the morning -- FOREX opens for business. It is the most liquid market in the world. A trader can enter or exit the market at will, in any market condition, with minimal execution or risk, and with no daily limit.<p>The Forex market is vast. It has so many participants that no single entity, country, central bank, can control the market for an extended period. Even interventions by mighty central banks are becoming ineffectual and short lived. <p>FOREX OPENING TO INVESTORS Historically, investors' accessed the foreign exchange through banks that transacted currency trades for commercial and investment purposes. Things changed over time. <p>Trading volume increased, especially after exchange rates were allowed to float freely in 1971.<p>One benefit of trading on FOREX is the low commission. The retail transaction cost is typically less than 0.1% (10 pips) below normal market conditions. <p>One thing most new investors do not understand is that FOREX is not owned or controlled by any country, bank, or entity. There is no correlation between FOREX and the stock markets. <p>The bull market or a bear market in currency is defined by the outlook for a currencies value against the other currencies. <p>If the outlook is positive, the currency is in a bull market in which a trader profits by buying the currency. <p>If the outlook is pessimistic, we have a bull market for other currencies and traders profits by selling the currency. This is the second benefit of FOREX trading. In either case, there is always a good trading opportunity for the investor.<p>In the beginning, individual investors could only sit back and envy the returns made by currency hedge fund managers. This is fast changing due to the introduction of the internet and online trading, currency trading is becoming more popular. <p>There are several things you need to know before investing your money in the FOREX market.<p>CREATE A SCHEDULE Most currency traders trade a given currency pair at the very same time every day. This is because most traders are buying or selling that currency pair at the same time. The large trading pits work the same shift every day. <p>This standardization may yield several pips worth of profit. While the foreign exchange market can be very volatile and random, any stability that an investor can use to their advantage will result in a profit. <p>Finding a time of day when trading is most profitable in the investor's chosen currency can mean the difference of thousands of dollars over a few months. <p>TRACKING VOLUME Foreign currency trading volume is determined by the open markets, the overlap, and closing times. That said, trading volume is high 24 hours a day. However, there are peaks in activity when the British, European, and US markets open simultaneously. <p>This happens between 1 pm GMT to 4 pm GMT. The Pacific Rim markets, Japan and Hong Kong, have a dip in trading volume even though the US market is trading aggressively at the very same time. <p>By trading on a set time frame, one may minimize or maximize the level of risk for a certain currency pair.<p>CHOOSING A BROKER There are a few things to take into consideration when looking for a broker. Unfortunately, most new investors jump on the bandwagon of ad copy hype and a fancy website, without researching their broker. <p>A FOREX trading broker must register with the local regulatory agencies. For US-based brokers, they are registered as Futures Commission Merchants (FCM) with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and with National Futures Association (NFA).<p>Ask questions. Research the broker thoroughly. Many traders fall for advertised low spreads and commissions but forget to ask about a little trick called requoting. Basically, it means that when investors buy/sell a currency pair at a certain price, the broker requotes and charge them based on the requoted price rather than what they see. The difference in prices can be as high as 9 pips, especially when the investor (thought) they were making huge gains. <p>It is common to endure the occasional one but if it happens too often, leave the broker. If possible, choose a broker with a "no requoting" policy.<p>The broker may also have hidden administration fees. Article #3<p>Introduction to Commodity Future's Trading<p>Futures are the trading of cash for commodities, or the promise of receiving the cash value of those commodities at a future date. <p>The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was the first organized exchange for grain. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) started in 1874 as the Chicago Produce Exchange. <p>As time passed, the number of commodities traded increased. In 1972, the CME introduced financial futures. The first cash-settled futures contract was introduced in 1981. <p>The establishment of a cash settlement instead of physical delivery of the product, expanded the futures market to include products that can't be delivered physically. This lead to the introduction of stock indexes, such as the S&P 500 stock index, in 1982. <p>Offering cash-settled futures eliminated the need to deliver a product, and allowed investors to profit from speculation.<p>How it Works The trading board was established to help the farming industry. <p>Farming is risky. The farmer must invest money, time, and effort to produce a tradable commodity. There are many elements beyond the farmer's control that can damage their product, such as weather, pests, transport, over supply, or price fluctuations. <p>These things may cause grain prices rise, and the farmers benefit, but millers suffer because they are forced to pay higher prices for grain. If prices fall, the farmers suffers, and the millers benefit. <p>'Forward Contracts' protect both the farmer and agriculture businesses that buy farm products by specifying a set price ahead of time.<p>A forward contract (cash forward sale) is a contract to supply a commodity at a given date for a specified price with no money exchanged until the date of delivery. <p>The problem is that, an agreement between private parties, increases the risk of non-payment, which occurred when prices increase or decrease. <p>The exchanges were created to protect all parties. <p>They require the money to be deposited with a third party to ensure the performance of the contract.<p>The forward contracts and exchanges evolved into a financial instrument that created a product which could be traded like stocks. <p>Hedgers use these futures to reduce their risk. Futures be used to hedge agricultural and other products, as well as to hedge investment portfolios. <p>Futures It is important to realize that futures are neither bought or sold. They are promises to buy or to deliver a commodity, at a specified price on the specified delivery date. <p>The money in a futures account is referred to as margin, such as the margin (performance bond).used to purchase stocks. <p>It is not borrowed money. Its purpose is to guarantee the contract's performance and to protect the integrity of the futures markets. <p>Regulatory Bodies This futures market is regulated in the USA by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the National Futures Association, and by the exchanges. <p>The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is a federal agency that regulates futures trading in the United States, and oversees the National Futures Association. <p>This is important to understand. While many people will remind new investors that it is totally legal to trade outside of the markets. There are smaller markets, but trading outside of the markets is dangerous. <p>The scam artists may have a great 'insider tip' or a 'loophole' that will help investors win big -- but remember, the futures were created to keep things fair and above board -- not to give investors a way to strike it rich at the expense of the commodity producers.<p>When trading properly, only the clearing house is hurt if something goes wrong. <p>Recently in the UK, many investors were buying mortgage interest futures at 6% (between May and June 2006) hoping that the Bank of England would increase their interest rates a sixth time in a year. <p>The BoE did not increase their interest rates. The banks won. The investors took a loss. This is the risk of futures trading.<p>A future for grain can be bought, and sold, before that year's grain crop is harvested. The futures may exchange several hands before the crop becomes a commodity that can be traded. <p>Trading Futures have the potential to earn big profits with a low margin. Where the average margin requirement for stocks is fifty per cent, the initial margin requirement for futures is only five to fifteen per cent. <p>The reason for this difference in the margins is because commodities have a narrower trading range. There is no chance that the price of corn or Euros will drop to zero, or skyrocket. <p>Smart trading takes into considerations aspects such as spreads, and options.<p>A 'Futures Contract' is a legal obligation to buy or sell a commodity at a certain price on a certain day. An 'Option' on a futures contract is the 'right, but not the obligation,' to buy or sell the futures contract before the expiration date. <p>The option contract offers one course of action not available with a futures contract. <p>The holder may decide to let their contract expire, if it is worthless at expiration, reducing the risk. They are Wrong. This type of scam plays on the same propaganda used by cults. You are made to believe you finally found someone who will finally quell your fears, and take you by the hand, showing you which are scams and which are not scams, which business opportunities work, and which ones do not. <p>This type of cyberspace scam is run by someone who is truly good.
